Emmanuel Mwenya
23 September 1957 - 2 January 2004

ATNESA is very sad to learn that Emmanuel Mwenya passed away on 2 January 2004 at Livingstone in Zambia, after a short illness (acute diabetes). His burial took place on 5 January. He qualified as an Agricultural Engineer and coordinated the draft animal power programme in Zambia. Emmanuel was a very active founder member of the ATNESA Steering Committee.  He participated in very many ATNESA workshops, details of which can be found on this website. In particular he coordinated the first major ATNESA workshop, held in Zambia in 1992, when he was nominated as the ATNESA chairperson. He gave up this responsibility when he went to study in UK in 1992/3. He returned and spent several successful years building up the animal draft power programme in Zambia. He then went on to work in Namibia, where he was the National Draft Animal Power Coordinator, based at Mashare College. He subsequently was appointed director of the Gobabeb Training and Research Centre in Namibia. He was a source of inspiration to a large number of his colleagues in Zambia, Namibia and the many other countries where he visited and worked. He will be sadly missed.
